Rabab

Rabab is considered the most important and iconic instrument of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). It is also known as the β€œLion of Instruments.” Its sound is deep, emotional, and soulful, representing the identity of Pashtun culture. The instrument is widely used in hujra gatherings, folk poetry sessions, and epic storytelling traditions.

Its body is carved from mulberry wood, and it includes sympathetic strings that make its sound richer and more resonant. The Rabab produces a powerful tone that deeply connects with listeners and reflects the emotional depth of Pashtun heritage.

Mangey

Mangey is a traditional clay percussion instrument used in the folk celebrations and dances of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is made from an earthen pot and is played using hands or a metal ring.

Its sound is raw, earthy, and powerful, reflecting the simplicity and strength of mountain culture. Mangey plays an important role in creating rhythm and energy during cultural gatherings and festive events.

Harmonium

The Harmonium is an important part of modern folk and Pashto poetry performances in KPK. It is mainly used to support singers by providing melody and enhancing the vocal performance.

It is often played along with Rabab and tabla to create harmony, depth, and balance in music. The harmonium helps blend traditional and modern musical expressions in Pashtun cultural performances.
